Older filter presses often remain mechanically serviceable long after original drawings, spare-part numbers or supplier records have become difficult to find. When a plate eventually needs replacement, buyers may only have the installed component available as a reference.
In this situation, ordering a replacement filter plate should begin with systematic measurement rather than nominal plate size. XUDA manufactures filter plates in multiple structures and can evaluate customized replacements based on drawings, samples and process conditions. XUDA's current product range includes chamber/recessed, membrane, CGR and plate-and-frame designs.
Two plates described as “1000 mm” or “1500 mm” may still differ in:
Thickness
Chamber depth
Feed-hole position
Filtrate outlet arrangement
Handle geometry
Sealing design
Drainage surface
Material
A replacement should therefore be matched from the complete component.
| Measurement | What to Record | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Overall size | Length × width | Basic frame compatibility |
| Plate thickness | Structural thickness | Plate pack length |
| Chamber depth | Recess dimensions | Cake volume and compatibility |
| Feed opening | Position, diameter, shape | Slurry distribution |
| Filtrate ports | Position and diameter | Drainage alignment |
| Handles | Position and dimensions | Support and shifting |
| Sealing area | Width and geometry | Leak prevention |
Do not measure the most damaged plate simply because it has already been removed from the press.
A cracked, warped or heavily worn plate may no longer represent the original dimensions.
Where possible, compare:
One undamaged installed plate
A spare unused plate
Several plates from the same pack
Any historical drawing or manual
Record all three dimensions.
Thickness is especially important because small differences accumulate across the plate pack. A replacement that appears to fit individually can still change total pack length if many plates are replaced.
Chamber depth affects cake volume and should not be confused with total plate thickness.
It also influences the amount of solids held between adjacent plates. Our guide to chamber depth explains why this dimension affects both capacity and cake formation.
Record:
Hole diameter
Distance from plate edges
Whether the feed is centered or offset
Opening shape
Any surrounding sealing geometry
Do not assume that another plate with the same outer dimensions uses the same feed arrangement.
Filtrate ports are equally important, especially in systems where openings align through multiple plates.
Take photographs of both sides of the plate and clearly mark which ports are open, closed or connected to external fittings.
Handles determine how the plate sits on the filter press side beams or support structure.
Record:
Handle width
Handle height
Distance from plate centerline
Contact surface dimensions
Any rollers or special fittings
An otherwise correct plate may still be unusable if its support geometry does not match the press.
Determine whether the existing component is:
Chamber/recessed
Membrane
CGR/gasketed
Plate-and-frame
Another customized design
XUDA currently manufactures these main filter plate categories and supports customized requirements for different filtration processes.
Dimensions alone cannot determine the correct material.
Provide:
Slurry composition
pH
Operating temperature
Feed pressure
Squeeze pressure if applicable
Cleaning chemicals
Required cake dryness
XUDA identifies filtration pressure, squeezing pressure, slurry temperature and corrosiveness as application factors used when selecting suitable raw materials.
Useful photographs should include:
Complete front view
Complete rear view
Feed opening
Filtrate ports
Handles
Sealing edge
Material markings
Any damaged areas
Include a scale or measurement reference where possible.
For complex or heavily customized plates, a physical sample can reduce uncertainty that is difficult to resolve from photographs alone.
This is particularly useful for unusual drainage patterns, membrane assemblies, molded sealing geometry or older equipment with no surviving documentation.
Overall dimensions recorded
Plate thickness confirmed
Chamber depth measured
Feed openings mapped
Filtrate ports mapped
Handles measured
Plate type identified
Material reviewed
Operating pressure recorded
Temperature recorded
Photos supplied
Sample available if required
Potentially. A detailed sample, accurate measurements, photographs and operating data can provide the information needed for technical evaluation. Complex designs may require additional verification before production.
An undamaged plate is preferable. If only a damaged plate is available, identify the damaged areas clearly and provide additional measurements or references so that deformation is not copied into the replacement.
The model number is useful, but older machines may have been modified during their service life. The currently installed plate should also be measured and verified.
Plate thickness, feed/filtrate port geometry and handle position are often overlooked when buyers focus only on external length and width.
Once a compatible replacement has been confirmed, retain the approved drawing, material specification and operating data for future orders. This turns an emergency measurement exercise into a repeatable spare-parts specification.
For additional guidance, see our detailed article on replacement plate matching.
XUDA Filtration supplies standard and customized filter plates for filter press manufacturers and industrial end users. If an older filter press no longer has complete spare-part documentation, contact XUDA with photographs, measurements, samples and operating conditions for technical review.
